Biography
YAMA（ヤマ）
ヘッドピースアーティスト / ヘアスタイリスト。東京を拠点に活動。
1990年、東京都生まれ。
都内美容室に勤務後、資生堂SABFA ビューティークリエーターコースに入学。ヘアメイクの基礎を学ぶ。
卒業後はヘアスタイリスト Koji Ichikawa氏（SEPT）のアシスタントとして師事し、ファッション誌やビューティ広告の現場で経験を積む。2018年に独立し、その後ロンドンへ留学。
ロンドンではJonathan Conelly氏のもとでヘアビューティ広告の表現を学ぶ。並行してセッションヘアスタイリストとして現地の雑誌撮影を中心に活動。
帰国後は、日本人としてのアイデンティティを反映させた作品制作に注力する。
現在は東京を拠点に、ミュージックビデオ・CM・広告など多様な分野で活動中。
ヘアスタイリストとしては、柔らかなニュアンスや繊細なビューティ表現に加え、大胆で動きのあるスタイル、クラシカルヘア、和装のアップスタイル、ウィッグやエクステを活用したキャラクター性・造形性の高いスタイルまで、幅広い表現を手がける。
なかでも、日本髪をはじめとする和の要素や、アジア的な雰囲気を取り入れたスタイルを得意としており、黒髪を活かした表現を多く展開。
近年はヘッドピースアーティストとしての活動に注力しクリエーションの幅をさらに拡大。現在はヘッドピースでの表現が活動の主軸となっている。
オリジナルのヘッドピースやアクセサリー、マスクなどを多数制作し、アーティストのMVやステージ、ファッションショーなど、国内外からの依頼を受けて発表を続けている。ヘアデザインの枠を超えた新たなビジュアル表現を追求中。
ヘッドピース作品の主な特徴として、透明感のある素材を多用し、植物や生物の造形美・自然界に存在するテクスチャーから着想を得た有機的かつ幻想的なデザインが多い。
また、演者の動きとデザインの揺らぎが連動し、演出とも一体化するようなデザイン構成を重視している。
ヘアスタイリストの知見を活かしたバランス感覚や装着時の安定感・フィット感も定評がある。
2024年5月には、外苑前 TAO STUDIO Aoyama にて初の個展
「YAMA Headpiece 1st Exhibition」 を開催し、3日間で約300名の来場を達成。

Biography
Headpiece Artist / Hair Stylist based in Tokyo.
Born in Tokyo in 1990.
After working at a hair salon in the city, YAMA enrolled in the Shiseido SABFA Beauty Creator Course, where they studied the fundamentals of hair and makeup.
Upon graduation, YAMA trained under hair stylist Koji Ichikawa (SEPT), gaining experience in fashion magazines and beauty advertising. In 2018, YAMA became independent and later studied abroad in London.
In London, they learned expressive techniques in hair beauty advertising under Jonathan Connelly, while also working as a session stylist for editorial shoots and fashion publications.
After returning to Japan, YAMA focused on developing works that reflect their identity as a Japanese artist.
Currently active in a wide range of fields including music videos, commercials, and advertisements.
As a hair stylist, YAMA creates a wide variety of styles—from delicate beauty looks and soft nuances to bold, dynamic designs. Their expertise also extends to classical hairstyles, traditional Japanese updos, and highly constructed looks using wigs and extensions.
YAMA has a particular strength in styles that incorporate Japanese aesthetics, including traditional nihongami-inspired designs and those with an Asian sensibility—often making use of natural black hair as a core element of expression.
In recent years, YAMA has focused intensively on their work as a headpiece artist, expanding the scope of their creations. Headpieces have now become the core of their artistic practice.
They create original headpieces, accessories, and masks, and have produced numerous pieces for music videos, live stages, and fashion shows in both Japan and abroad.
Their work is recognized for transcending the boundaries of traditional hair design and pursuing new forms of visual expression.
YAMA’s headpieces are characterized by the use of translucent materials, inspired by the textures and forms found in nature—such as plants, organic structures, and imaginary creatures.
Another defining feature is the integration of movement: each piece is designed to flow and sway in harmony with the performer’s motion, creating a sense of unity between body and object.
Their deep knowledge as a hair stylist contributes to the excellent balance, stability, and comfortable fit of each design.
In May 2024, YAMA held their first solo exhibition,
“YAMA Headpiece 1st Exhibition,” at TAO STUDIO Aoyama in Gaienmae, Tokyo.
Over the three-day event, the show welcomed approximately 300 visitors.
